Announcing Leadership Changes at Manifest MedEx
Manifest MedEx (MX), California’s leading nonprofit health data network, announced today that CEO Claudia Williams has decided to step down from her role at the end of June after a successful five-year tenure building and leading the organization. The Board of Directors is naming current COO Erica Galvez, who also joined MX in 2017, as Interim CEO starting July 1, 2022. Claudia will be taking a well-earned sabbatical before embarking on new opportunities.
Claudia Williams came to Manifest MedEx as CEO after six years leading health data sharing and innovation initiatives in the Obama Administration. When she first joined MX, the network exchanged health information for 4.5 million Californians. The health data utility has since grown to deliver clinical and claims data for more than 30 million Californians in every county, with participation across more than 10 health plans, 125 hospitals, and 1,500 ambulatory providers in the state. Manifest MedEx has played a critical role in California’s pandemic response and is guiding policymakers on the implementation of AB 133, which requires that California health care organizations share data by 2024.
“Claudia is an outstanding leader, and the Board and I are deeply appreciative of her work building and leading Manifest MedEx (MX) over the last five years. As CEO she combined three qualities that are essential to MX’s success: expertise in network-based value creation; strong partnerships with providers, health plans, and policy leaders across California; and skills forming and leading a highly effective team.” said Jarrod B. McNaughton, MX board chair and CEO of Inland Empire Health Plan. “While we will miss her, MX is in a great position to lead data sharing across California for years to come.”
Erica Galvez joined MX from roles as Health Information Exchange Director with Aledade and Interoperability Portfolio Manager with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Erica also previously served as Chief of Staff, Chief Strategy Officer, and Chief Operating Officer at MX, executing on MX’s most critical strategic initiatives.
“I am grateful to the team at Manifest MedEx, to our Board, and to our partners across the entire state, for the incredible progress we have made since 2017,” said Williams. “I am excited to see the growth and impact MX will achieve in the years ahead. MX will be a critical infrastructure backbone to help California enhance health, transform Medi-Cal, strengthen public health, and address equity. I will miss the team and the work tremendously. Erica will lead with an amazing combination of strategic smarts, impact orientation, and heart.”
